Irritable Bowel / IBS treatment in N. Ireland - Stephen Chan FIAPH

Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS has become the most common digestive system problem with around one in six in the UK experiencing occasional symptoms, which consist of a mixture of abdominal symptoms, which include constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, abdominal pain, bloated abdomen, passing excess wind, feeling sick and indigestion.

It’s a disorder of the digestive system that can affect the gut anywhere from the mouth to the anus, hence the variety of symptoms which are similar to other intestinal disorders. Although you have these terrible symptoms, there will be no signs of gut abnormality, and this is probably the most baffling thing about IBS

Also the exact causes of IBS are unknown, which makes it difficult to reliably prevent. It can’t be diagnosed by a single blood test, X-ray or scan, so the diagnosis is often made wholly based upon the symptoms that are present.

Although the exact cause of IBS is still unknown, one thing is known, psychological / emotional factors play a key role.  Has it never occurred to you why your symptoms worsen when you are under stress? - Stress caused by work anxieties, relationship difficulties or life events such as divorce or bereavement.

The fact that there is a psychological / emotional factor to IBS would explain why;

  • Almost 20% of the world population is affected with IBS.
  • Some have mild symptoms while in others IBS is severe.
  • Symptoms can improve, get worse and even disappear.
  • No one single treatment works for everyone with IBS (until now).
  • IBS symptoms differ from person to person.
  • Even though there are no gut abnormalities, they tell you there’s no cure.
  • Conventional treatments can only help to control IBS symptoms.
  • Patients often become dissatisfied with conventional treatments available.
  • Most patients end up seeking help by using alternative treatments.

Experts are now realising that in order to treat IBS effectively, they must understand the connection between the gut and the brain…

“And this is precisely why I can help you”
