IAPH Annual Conference 2009

The 24th IAPH Annual Conference - A Great Success!

Article written by Paul Douglass MIAPH Acc. - Avon Hypnotherapy

Conference 2009 was held in May 2009 in Coventry in the UK, and was a truly MAGICAL affair!

Having pulled together some of the very best speakers we have ever managed to get our little hands on, speakers this year came from all over the world, and covered a wide variety of fascinating subjects.

Getting the weekend off to a relaxed and informal start, lots of our IAPH friends gathered for a social evening on the Friday night... a nice relaxing evening in the bar, with people arriving from all around the world during the course of the evening.

Everyone enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere, with some wonderful conversation, not to mention some fantastic live music to get the conference atmosphere off to a flying start!

Saturday

Saturday morning at Conference always brings a wonderful sense of anticipation, as this year was VERY special. Everyone agreed that Saturday's speakers alone were worth travelling from all over the world to see...

Dr Mark Pummel MIAPH flew in from Shanghai to give his talk, entitled "'Mental State Examination' and 'The Common Neurotic state'". An incredibly engaging speaker, Mark, who has spoken at Conference before, once again gave us a fascinating insight into the astonishing depth of knowlege that he has on the human mind, and what makes people 'tick'.

Following Mark, our very own Rob Kelly FIAPH brought his unique brand of humour as well as his unparalleled ability to engage his audience... making him the perfect speaker to talk about the therapy, managing clients, industry research, regulations... you name it!

Bringing Saturday's conference speakers to an entertaining close, was Ray DeHaan MIAPH. Ray, as well as being an IAPH member, is also one of the world's most prolific stuntmen! - Ray brought with him some of his video clips and props, and his descriptions of the way he performs stunts with some of the worlds biggest Hollywood stars, have to be heard to be believed!

Saturday Evening!

Almost everyone who comes to Conference, makes the most of the Saturday evening festivities... a real chance to let your hair down with friends, and enjoy a sociable and entertaining evening!

All dressed up and ready to party, the evening kicks off with pre-dinner drinks, followed by a wonderful four course meal.

During the meal this year, we had some breathtaking 'close-up magic' performed for us by Richard Parsons FIAPH and Mark Vasey MIAPH, who are not only members of the IAPH and our friends, but also VERY talented magicians!

The magic theme continued with a brilliant 'mind-reading' show by Matt Stirling, and then music took over, with our very own house band getting people on the dance floor to work off their four course dinner!!

As usual, the Saturday night fun carried on well into the night, and a great time was had by all!

Sunday

The Sunday morning wake up this year was provided by our very own Rob Kelly, and Arne Richards MIAPH (Arne is also an IAPH member and good friend of ours who also happens to be a brilliant concert musician!)

Sunday continued with a truly absorbing talk by David Trickey, who is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and one of the UK's leading specialists in childhood trauma and abuse, and helping survivors of their abuse move on with their lives. David brought with him his superb ability to talk about difficult subjects in a way that doesn't make them difficult to hear... a real talent.

After Rob Kelly talked some more about how a therapist, with the right support, can be a truly succesful therapist by maintaining a high level of self-awareness, our own Andrew Hagley MIAPH brought Sunday to a fitting conclusion, by talking about the IAPH research survey, that is now proving the efficacy of our unique therapy!

What People Said

The feedback from IAPH Conferences are always good, and this year's are no exception!

Kev Gray MIAPH, owner of one of the UK's biggest suppliers of hypnotherapy equipment said...

"Having been in the hypno-business for almost twenty years now, I have attended many hypno seminars and conference both inside and outside the UK.

I think that this years IAPH 2009 Conference was the best and most enjoyable that I have yet attended, although I thought last years event was excellent, this year was even better!

I thought that the combination of a 'Black Tie' Dinner and a real proper 'live' band was perfect, right up my street - good food - good company, and great music. I never realised that there were so many seriously talented musicians in the IAPH, including yourself? Well Done mate!

Great lecturers too, International and UK, a seriously professional event... when you suggested that I stayed on for the extra two advanced training days, I was so pleased that I did, and funnily enough my first client who booked in on Wednesday morning was an Emetaphobe?

Its a fact that the new IAPH Conferences are a world apart... they are so much more fun the whole weekend carries so much energy.

Well done Rob, keep up the great work.

Kindest Regards,

"Thanks for organising such an excellent, upbeat  and informative conference.  I found the speakers diverse and entertaining whilst covering a range of very interesting and useful topics which were thought provoking.  Rob is such an excellent speaker with a deep well of professional knowledge with a character all his own.  The weekend went by so quickly and I was left wanting to know more.  Thanks for providing a great way to continue my professional development and enabling me to network with new colleagues."

Julia Chrisfield MIAPH said...

"Thank you for yet another excellent Conference. As usual it was packed full of interesting and stimulating presentations. I always come away from IAPH meetings feeling motivated and very supported and this was no exception. The social side was fun, and struck just the right balance after the more serious issues discussed during the day."
